| Printers:
We use HP Designjet 5000 printers. We chose these printers
because of their dependability and their color accuracy.
Their ink layering technology provides both high density and wide
gamut.
Raster
Image Processor: We use ZEH Raster Plus RIPs.
We chose these for two reasons:
- They allow us to bypass other
software which automatically downgrades the printing
resolution (pixels per inch) when large file sizes are
involved. We print all files at 300 PPI, even though the
resultant file sizes are usually quite large.
- They allows us to automate the
printing process.
The file preparation and
imposition processes are 100% automated, and are based on software
which we have written.

Paper:
We use HP 7 mil photo glossy or photo satin paper. Photo
satin is the best choice for most point of sale posters.
In general, two types of photo
quality ink jet papers are available: micropore papers which
allow the ink to soak in (e.g., the Ilford 9 mil Omnijet papers
and HP's 9 mil papers), and papers (such as the ones we use) which
do not allow the ink to soak in. Since the clearance between
the print heads and the paper is very close, all 9 mil papers must
be of the type wherein the ink soaks in. Otherwise the ink
will smear.
For large volume customers, we
will use the 9 mil paper if you prefer that. However, it is
our understanding that the 9 mil papers, which present a far
greater surface area of the ink to the air, fade quickly due to
gas oxidation. (We
would prefer and use the 9 mil paper, if it were not for the fade
resistance issue. We feel that all things considered, the
slightly thinner 7 mil paper is a better choice.) |
Ink:
We use HP Type 81 dye. We have chosen that (as opposed to
the type 83 pigment, which has superior fade resistance) for the
following reasons:
- The type 81 dye has better color
saturation and brilliance.
- For posters used in indoor
applications, the expected time before the start of fading is
estimated at 3-10 years. This is more than adequate for most
users. The additional fade resistance provided by the type
83 pigment is of little if any value.
Shipping:
We send most orders by Priority Mail. We are
self-insured. If the order is damaged or lost in the mail,
we will replace it at no charge.
Laminating:
Sorry, we don't do laminating. If this is something you feel
you need, please discuss it with us.
Foamcore
Mounting: Sorry again. The likelihood of damage
in shipping, plus the additional shipping cost, are two reasons
why we are reluctant to offer this service. |
